Tooth eruption is a painful stage in baby’s life, the after effects of the eruption might leave the baby to be vulnerable for viral or bacterial infections. The most common type of effect is the grumpiness in their attitude and constant crying. The eruption of primary teeth does not occur all at once, they erupt in specific order from the gums.

Order of tooth eruption:

The order of tooth eruption as per the age is mentioned hereby;

  • 6 – 12 months: Central incisors erupt from the gums.
  • 9 – 16 months: Lateral incisors eruption.
  • 13 – 19 months: First molar tooth eruption.
  • 16 – 23 months: Canines eruption.
  • 22 – 24 months: Second molar tooth eruption.

How long does teething lasts?

Teething depends upon the genetics rather than time period recorded as per scientific research. According to science, the teething stage start from the age of 6 months and ends by the 12th month when the baby reaches 1 year of the prime age. It often variates due to the genetic modification where the teething might start as early as 4 months or may last even after 12 months. Parents should not worry about the baby teething problem, just make sure that the baby is not facing any issue related to their gums. IF everything is normal as per the doctor’s instructions then it is probably the genetic makeup that delays the teething.

Home remedies to provide relief of teething pain:

Beside the usage of medication or ointment for the gums to soothe the pain initiated gums and calm the baby, there is also an option for home remedies. Most grandparents give their best home remedies according to their experience. There are some home remedies that can help the teething infant from the pain, it is not permanent and requires time to time usage of the method.

Pressure – By applying gentle pressure on the gums of the baby, they feel better and relieved. Parents can either use their finger or any other object like tooth ring or a spoon.

Wet cloth - Biting on a cold wet cloth also helps in improving the painful condition of the baby as the sensation of cold objects helps sooth the area of eruption.

Feeding - as in most cases, the baby refuses to eat due to the uncomfortable situation in gums. There is always an option of changing the shape of the bottle head ( nipple ) or cup according to the baby's need to help soothe the discomfort in the gums, it will help the baby to take some food despite the slight pain.

Cold objects - The use of cold objects reduces the swollen effect of gums or inflammation in the mouth. Therefore cold spoons or wet clothes are used in such situations and prove to be a useful technique. Ensure that the temperature is not too cold or not too warm, otherwise, it may affect the teething adversely.

Parents often use their home remedies to relieve their child of the invisible pain and soothe them as much as possible. Prevent giving the baby chewable items like hard biscuits to prevent them from incidents such as choking.

See what people are saying!

Most of these teething toys are round or oval and babies can't get to the back teeth. This elephant is great because not only does it have different textures but the elephant's trunk is ideal for pushing towards the back teeth! Exactly what we were looking for.

Great baby item, easy for tiny hands to hold and not a item I have to worry about gagging. I like the safety and independence of this teether, better than the banana teether (you have to watch baby to make sure they don't gag). This one is easy for our son to sit and sooth independently with.

I wish this toy had been around when my 5-year-old was teething! The large hole in the center allows my kiddo to easily grab, hold onto, and maneuver the teether. The teether holds temperature rather well too. It is my kid's favorite teether out of the 8-10 I have given him to try.

I bought this because it is not filled with anything and I was hoping it was the soft silicone that bends and holds up well. I am happy to say it was everything I was hoping for. I love the texture and the softness of the material.
